Using Your Resume to Sell Yourself

Promoting Your Accomplishments to Potential Employers

Writing a resume isn't just about detailing your professional history - it's about reflecting who you are as an employee and what you can bring to the table for potential employers. When properly conveyed, these unique attributes will allow you to stand out from other applicants.

The best way to showcase your talents is to highlight your past accomplishments. Articulate what you did, why you did it, how you did it, and the end result for your clients, team, and company. Specifically mention quantifiable successes using numbers, percentages or time frames. These can include sales and revenue enhancements, cost savings, and process improvements. Also mention special projects you led or contributed to as part of a team and include the result following project completion. Quantifying accomplishments shows hiring managers that you are results-driven and are able to make a significant contribution to company operations.

Always remember that employers are looking for job candidates that can produce results and advance corporate objectives. To be an attractive candidate, utilize your past successes to provide examples of who you are as an employee and what you can do for a new employer.
